In a nutshell, mastering incorporates all of the audio work done on the master output from a mixed song or album. While originally intended as the mechanical preparation step for putting music into its final media format for playback, mastering later began to include additional post-mixing audio enhancement work in order to optimize the sound specifically for the various intended playback formats (ex: vinyl, CD, digital, etc.).

I’ll let you in on an industry secret: Most voiceovers you hear on adverts, movies, and TV shows have been recorded by a pro voiceover talent from their home. How do I know this? Because I’ve personally set up a substantial amount of the country’s top voiceover talents’ studios in New York City over the last ten years. Some songwriters say they have received amounts equal to a ten-year advance on royalties. The money has been used to take their career in a new direction, buy new equipment or fund a tour or music video. However, not everyone may have a roster of songs that will sell for enough money to pay the electric bill. Keep in mind that once you sell your rights to your intellectual property, you waive your right to collect any future royalties it may generate.
The piece is constructed as a linear entity, with an introduction and conclusion that share the use of natural harmonics in the piano. The keys two octaves below the notes in Bar 3 are pressed but only sound out by sympathetic resonance, after the sforzatissimo in the upper part (0:13 into the video). Ligeti uses sub-harmonics in the first part and both lower and upper harmonics at the end of the piece.
Most platforms have large engineering teams dedicated to all of this. We have a pretty good idea of how much money it’s costing these platforms every year, and we’re confident we can reduce that cost by at least 80%. At a time where profitability is key, I’d say we have a pretty appealing offer.
